Music, Arts and Worship
The Covenant Singers is a choir comprised of youth in grades 7th to 12th. It is not a requirement for children or their families to be members of First Church in order to participate in any choirs for children or youth.
Caring
New and experienced knitters are welcome to join this group as they prepare prayer shawls that are delivered to those who can use a reminder that the church is praying for them.

Be a Mentor (math or reading tutor) or Lunch Buddy 1/2 hour (or more) per month. Donate food items for backpacks that students take home for weekend meals or donate socks, underwear, sweat pants and shirts to be used when a child has an accident at school
Spiritual Life
Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spirtitual renewal and formation that begins with a 3 day short course in Christianity. Participants join in small groups to support each other in their ongoing walk with Christ. Non-Denominational

Teams of prayer volunteers use a phone tree to pass along prayer request for members of a church family or friend.

Troop 442 has been chartered with the Boy Scouts of America since 1925. All programs follow BSA guildelines.
Worship
We offer a full worship service in our sanctuary each Sunday morning, followed by an informal gathering in our fellowship hall.

We are a Five Star childcare center licensed by the State of NC. Our teachers are approved and accredited by the Dvision of Child Services. We offer structured activities, supervised free-play. Call director Vickie Wood at 704-633-7209

Volunteers interview RHM clients in need of medications, food, clothing, or other financial assistance. After the interview, the RHM Staff makes a decision about what help to make available. Training is available for all volunteers.

Our members Visit and follow up with worship visitors. Each Doorstep Visitors team makes visits about 3 times a year. Each visit is intended to be a 10-14 minut visit at the door.

Teams usually serve a breakfast, or a breakfast and supper meal. Laundry is accomplished during and after supper.

Assist the pastor in serving communion elements to the congregation during Sunday worship and special worship opportunities. Servers meet with the pastor about 15 minutes prior to the service in his study.

Plan and conduct the monthly journey@first worship service. Help is needed to design and prepare altar display, set up and clean up the chapel, audio and visual system, and other preparations. The service is the third Sunday 9:00 to 9:45 AM.

UMW meet in circles (small groups), once a month, normally the 1st Monday, at a time that suits its members.

Volunteers and substitutes from out church deliver meals on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.
Caring
Contacts are made through cards, telephone calls, and personal visits. Food or other small gifts are often taken at the time of the visit. The group meets once a quarter for an informal lunch to stay current.

This two-way contact helps to idenify ministry needs, especially during times of death and illness, and recognize times of celebration.

Connectors develop relationships with prospective members to facilitate their connecting with a small group ministry within the congregation. A Connector may be paired with an individual or with a family.

Men join together for prayer, sharing prayer concerns, devotions, breakfast, and fellowship on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, at 7AM at Hendrix Restaurant on West Innes Street.

Our members welcome guests to worship, especially first time visitors. We ask guests to sign our guest book register in the main entry to our sanctuary. Greeters provide directional info (bathrooms, nursery, etc.).
Reaching Out in Mission
A variety of construction volunteers, and support teams will be needed for our next home project. You can also volunteer any time to work in a variety of ways (in retail sales store, construction, etc.) directly with Rowan County Habitat for Humanity.

This is a morning program which runs 9 months per year, with a class for younger twos, older twos, three year olds and four year olds. We provide a warm and loving environment with developmentally appropriate activities. Call 704-636-3121 for more info.

Participants take turns hosting. Light refreshments are served and good fellowship is enjoyed. One night a month beginning at 7:30PM and playing until around 10PM, playing 5 progressions.

Provides a Christian camp experience for Rowan-Salisbury school system children who may not have an opportunity otherwise. Volunteers are needed for mentoring, driving, helping with activities indoors and out. Camp is 24 hours/day for one week.

Middle High and Senior High Youth Group is to help youth grow in their personal relationship with God and to help them experience Christian community. Youth meet for fellowship, worship, a meal and studies/lessons 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Sunday evenings.

First Methodist has a strong Christian Education program, offering Sunday school classes for all ages.

Youth, generally in the 6th through 8th grade, help create sacred, celebratory worship by lighting the candles, processing in and out of the sanctuary with the cross, and assisting with baptisms, communion or other aspects of worship.

Teams of two serve the sacrament of Holy Communion to those who due to illness and/or infirmity are unable to receive it at regular services.

Provides a stuctured service with dialogue for children 1st to 5th grade during the 11:00 AM worship service. We learn the elements of worship, the different seasons of the church year, and what worship is all about. Held in the chapel.

The group is a mix of couples and singles, that meet at different restaurants, Dutch treat, or other planned social events and trips. A quarterly calendar is available.

Volunteers partnering with Guatemala volunteers, have provided a medical clinic and pharmacy, assist with construction and Christian education through vacation Bible school for children, and are working on a solution for clean water in a village.

Volunteers help organize or contribute to gift collections and other collection frives to meet the needs of Rowan County foster children.

Prepare the Sanctuary for weekly services. The Altar Guild maintains the Altar area and all the Vessels and Appointments. The Sanctuary is prepared prior to Sunday, and volunteers work for 1 to 2 hours each week at a time convenient for them.

Provide a meal for families in our church who have lost a loved one. Sometimes a Sunday school class or other small group within the church provides the meal.

Cares for members of our church family during times of crisis when normal family functions are disrupted, such as during hospitalization. Examples of care, preparation and delivery of meals, babysitting, and transportation to doctor's appointments.
Fun for All
An opportunity to enjoy fellowship in an informal setting. Activities might include a meal at a member's home, at a restaurant, a trip to a play, or place of interest. Groups are formed in January and July during a covered dish dinner at the church.

Welcome the family of God into worship, extending hospitality as needed to maximize the worship experience. Usher teams serve for each of the Sunday morning worship services (8:45 and 11:00 AM) and for special worship services.

Shares First United Mehodist sanctuary services with those who are not able to attend or those who want a media record of special events. Volunteers make audio or video recordings and can deliver to the homebound.

Provides an age appropriate worship oppotunity for children 3-5 years old during the 11:00AM Sunday morning worship service. Children leave the sanctuary for Children's Church at the designated time.

Ministry teams are composed of youth and adult leaders. Worship and reflection are part of the mission experience. Teams serve for about one week during the summer.
