Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don’t Know You Have is a 2019 book by former New York Times science writer Tatiana Schlossberg that reveals the hidden environmental and carbon costs of our everyday habits The book explores unseen ecological impacts by dividing them into four main areas: Internet and technology: Streaming video, data centers, cloud storage, and electronic waste. Food: Agriculture, meat production, organic farming, and food waste. Fashion: Fast fashion, synthetic polyester production, and microplastic shedding from laundry. Fuel: Transportation, ride-sharing, and electricity generation We will meet on Tuesdays at 1 PM in the Parish House. Join us Tuesday, September 29th to Tuesday, November 24th. Screening of the Documentary Film "Remembering Mychal"

The film recalls the ‘Months Mind’ gathering, where gathered to grieve and remember Fr. Judge—their priest and their friend—who had a heart as big as New York, with room for all.     In stories, prayer, and song, parishioners from New York and New Jersey, firefighters, Franciscan friars, Irish musicians, and the LGBT community unwrap the life and heart of their priest and friend, the people’s Mychal Judge.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul Meeting

The Lily of Quito | Cantata on St. Mariana de Jesús de Paredes

With the Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola and Featuring the Park Avenue Consort Composer and soprano Dr. Stephanie Susberich presents The Lily of Quito, a cantata on St. Mariana de Jesús de Paredes, the 17th-century mystic and patroness of Ecuador. A member of the Third Order of St. Francis, Mariana is remembered for a life of devotion, sacrifice, and profound spiritual interiority, and is known as the “Lily of Quito,” a title linked to a miracle at her death. Originally composed as Dr. Susberich’s doctoral dissertation, The Lily of Quito is a large-scale work for soprano and ensemble that seeks to render the saint’s inner world through a contemporary musical language shaped by lyricism, theology, and emotional precision. Drawing directly from Mariana’s own words, the work allows the saint to speak in her own voice, giving musical form to her lived spirituality rather than a retrospective portrayal. The score is held in the Victoria and Joaquín Rodrigo Archive in Madrid, managed by the Victoria and Joaquín Rodrigo Foundation, alongside his own oratorio on the saint, establishing a rare historical and artistic dialogue between the two works. The program situates the cantata within a broader sacred and historical context. It includes Joaquín Rodrigo’s La Despedida de Azucena from his oratorio on the same saint, offering a rare opportunity to encounter two distinct musical interpretations of Mariana de Jesús. The Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola will also perform Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla’s Missa Ego flos campi, along with Rodrigo’s Ave Maria, rounding out an evening that bridges centuries of sacred expression. This performance continues Dr. Susberich’s ongoing work of bringing the lives of saints into contemporary musical form, uniting historical devotion with a distinctly present artistic voice. Book Reading and Discussion | Road Trip Detour: Exploring Life’s Journey

Former parishioner Rich Miller-Murphy shares a deeply personal story of loss, resilience, and the unexpected turns that can lead to a life of meaning and purpose. In Road Trip Detour, Rich reflects on a difficult period in his life marked by the deaths of his longtime partner from AIDS, his mother from pancreatic cancer, and his grandfather following heart surgery, as well as serious health challenges of his own. At the same time, he was concealing his sexuality out of fear of discrimination and the possible consequences for his career. Overwhelmed by grief, illness, and secrecy, Rich experienced a mental health crisis that led to two psychiatric hospitalizations. He credits the support of family, friends, and colleagues with helping him through those years. His story ultimately became one of transformation. Later in life, Rich married his partner in 2004, and in 2007 they welcomed twins through a gestational carrier. Road Trip Detour explores how even life’s most difficult detours can open the way to hope, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose—and how accepting help can sometimes change the course of a life. Many Faiths, One City: An Interfaith Journey Through Colonial New York

Step into a world of pirates, prophets, revolutionaries, refugees, traders, and forgotten visionaries. Walk the streets where Sephardic Jewish refugees fought for the right to stay, Lutherans challenged colonial authority, Anglican influence grew, and African Muslims carried their faith across the Atlantic.
