When people ask me about Churchill United Methodist Church, I often describe it as “the quintessential little country church.” To me, that describes the best there is — a church where love is evident when you walk in the door, where tradition and heritage are honored even as we move forward, and where the congregation is vital, active, and devoted to God. Churchill is all of that and more.
The Churchill congregation lives our motto, “Where the friendship of God overflows.” The author of 1 John wrote “God is love” (verse 4:16), and that is our essence as the Body of Christ. Where there is a need, the people of Churchill are there. Our prayer chains are activated immediately upon request. Cards, phone calls, emails and homemade chicken soup appear in loving abundance when illness strikes. When one of our family leaves this earth to go to God, the rest of the family gathers in force to provide comfort and to honor the deceased loved one. Our mission giving benefits relief programs within our local community, district, conference, and throughout the world.
The “quintessential country church” also describes our physical facilities. We are understandably proud of the little white church that was built more than a century ago, survived a move from one corner to the other, and remains sturdy and beautiful even today. When we sing “The Little Brown Church in the Vale,” we unashamedly alter the lyrics to sing of our “Little White Church in the Vale.”
The people of God are called to be the hands and feet of Christ. There is indisputable evidence that the hands and feet of Christ are alive and active at Churchill United Methodist Church.
We hope you’ll join us for worship on Sunday morning, for our monthly coffee hour, for a special Soupy Sunday fundraiser (you’ve never tasted anything better!), or for a special event, such as our annual Pancake and Sausage Supper. More than that, we hope you’ll find the overflowing friendship of God — for that is why God has placed us here. Welcome to Churchill United Methodist Church!
