The Journey Worship Service

Worship

This is a service designed for casual dress and features praise and worship style of music, led by a combo and vocal ensemble. The service is very visual, utilizing three screens, and concentrates on ways to make faith alive in our lives today.

Congregational Care

Caring

The St. James model of congregational care is built on an active pastoral-staff-lay partnership.  As a large church, St.James follows the biblical model of congregational care giving, supports the ministry gifts of trained servant disciples. Our dedicated pastors, Congregational Care Director. Community of Hope Chaplains, staff and volunteers offer ministries to meet the spiritual, emotional, physical, and relational needs of our church family and community.
 
From marriage, births, deaths and all of life’s events in between, we are here to help meet your needs. Our trained staff can provide counseling, arrange hospital, nursing home,  or home visitation, or simply support you in prayer. Jenny Smith, Director of Congregational Care, ensures that chaplain caregiving and support groups are available to anyone in need, regardless of church affiliation. In addition to these groups, Jenny oversees various prayer groups and senior ministries. If you are interested in participating in care groups or in serving in the Congregational Care ministry,

Music

Music, Arts and Worship

ADULT MUSIC

Singing Choirs Our adult choir leads weekly in worship at the 10:55 a.m. traditional service.  They prepare music for special worship services and concerts during the year.  The choir is completely volunteer and no audition is required.
 
Festival Singers  – Rehearsals begin October 3
Festival Singers join the Chancel Choir to prepare for the Carols and Candles Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 16. At this concert, the choir performs major works with an orchestra. The Festival Singers is completely volunteer, no audition required. It is a wonderful opportunity to sing with the choir without making a full time commitment.
 
Praise Band Contemporary Christian Music lends itself to pop style voices and pop musicians.  If you can jam or rock n’ roll, contact Rev. Greg Schick at 217- 6706 or [email protected] for more information on sharing your gift of singing or playing instruments.
 
Canticle Ringers Our adult handbell choir is open to people who have ringing experience or previous musical training.

Community of Hope Chaplains

Caring

Community of Hope Chaplains are a team of trained lay volunteers who use their gifts and graces to be the ultimate partner in ministry with the clergy and staff. With this training they will be empowered to make hospital, homebound and nursing home  visits, telephone persons in need of contact, meet one-on-one with persons in need of a listening ear for prayer and encouragement, offer support to grieving families and proactively seek to encourage and care for persons in need.  The St. James model of congregational care is built on an active pastoral-staff-lay partnership.  As a large church, St.James follows the biblical model of congregational caregiving, supports the ministry gifts of trained servant disciples. To receive a hospital or homebound visit from a trained and commissioned Chaplain, please contact Director of Co756 or email her at [email protected].

Saturday Evening Casual Worship

This is a come-as-you-are casual worship service offering traditional music from the Cokesbury hymnal. The Saturday Evening service offers the warmth and fellowship of a small church with the option of kneeling at the communion rail for prayer time.

Youth Ministries

With God’s help, youth in leadership, adult support, and guidance and direction from Chris Johnson, Director of Youth Ministries, St. James Youth is a great place to be. Our youth have fun and fellowship, go out in mission to serve and grow in community and faith throughout the year.

Sunday Evening

MAD+ (Music Arts & Drama) Starts September 9th, 1st Sunday of each month MountainTop
(Kindergarten – 2nd grade) Through missions, arts, drama and more, children in kindergarten through second grade will have a chance to explore their faith in a variety of fun activities. We will investigate God’s jobs, what he is and does.
 

Weekday & Saturday

T2 (Tween Time) (3rd – 5th grades) 5:45pm
Designed for our older elementary students, T2 (Tween Time), provides students with an engaging way to dive into their Bibles, so they can build a strong foundation for their faith. Students are encouraged to bring a brown bag supper or join their families at Wednesday night dinner in Jones Hall. The first Wednesday of each month is a crowd pleasing Pizza Night provided by the children’s ministry. No need to sign up, just join us!
 
PNO (Parents’ Night Out) 2nd Saturday Sept. – May Parents’ Night Out is designed to provide kids with a fun, safe place to be, while parents get a brief respite (and maybe a date). The evening includes a snack supper, games and more. Designed for infants through 5th grade. Cost is $15 for the first child, $10 for each additional child. ADVENTURES FOR THE CITY: The week-long camp is scheduled for August of every year. St. James is aiming to make camp more accessible to children in our community so that every child can experience Christ-like change through outdoor adventure, authentic relationships and Biblical truth.
Adventure for the Cityers will experience just about everything traditional away camps have to offer – from rock climbing to archery tag to soaking-wet water activities – supervised by the world’s most energetic counselors. For one week, they’ll worship with friends, explore God’s unchanging Word and learn what it means to be a kid who follows Christ.

Traditional Worship

Worship

One of two traditional United Methodist worship celebrations. The St. James Choir leads traditional hymns and presents anthems to the glory of God. Additional music is offered by handbells, children and youth choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.

Vertical Event

Worship

This is a multi-sensory, multi-generational worship experience that incorporates movie/tv clips, drama, dance, and music. This interactive hour is guided by a rock band playing energetic hymns and secular songs to worship God in creative ways.

Traditional Worship Service

Worship

A service of prayer and praise, Awakening is a unique blend of both traditional and praise music and meaningful prayer experiences.
