Understanding the passage
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches his followers to pray sincerely. He challenges the idea that many words can make God listen. The next verses introduce the Lord’s Prayer. You can begin simply: name something you are grateful for, something you need, and someone you care about.

Understanding the passage
Paul writes to a church he loves, encouraging prayer, gratitude, and trust amid difficulty. A petition is a request: you can tell God specifically what is troubling you. These words invite people to seek God’s peace; they should not be used to blame someone whose anxiety continues.

Understanding the passage
