Caring
In 2010 our members will work to organize the community of Mercer Island in a Nothing But Nets event.
Reaching Out in Mission
MIUMC was the first church on Mercer Island to host TC4, a temporary homeless encampment. The congregation continues to provide meals several times a year. TC4 residents often are in worship as "ambassadors."
Reaching Out in Mission
Moms and Dads often need an evening free to get some things done, or to have a date night. Youngsters starts with a meal, then have activities. Reservations are required. Contact the church office.
Spiritual Life
There is always a book of the Bible for study, and rich fellowship
Caring
The coffee we use is purchased through Equal Trade, supporting small farm co-operatives. A % is used for small farmers projects to improve their lives.
Music, Arts and Worship
There is an openness and welcome for musicians -- instrumental, percussion, or voice. Talk with the pastor.
Caring
Prayer Shawls are given to persons celebrating a happy life milestone, but primarily to those who are ill or grieving for comfort. The person is prayed for during the making of the shawl. All knitters/crocheters or those who want to learn are invited.
Spiritual Life
8 men, different churches. The group has been studying devotional writings by the spiritual writers of the church through the centuries. Always engaging study and rich fellowship.
Spiritual Life
The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes shawls for celebration, encouragement, and healing for those who are grieving, sick, divorcing. Celebration includes the birth of a child or marriage. Any knitter/crocheter or one who wants to learn is invited.
Reaching Out in Mission
Books for children and teens are part of the Sunday offering. Atlantic Street Center distributes them for reading programs, and for parents to give as gifts.
Spiritual Life
The group meets "In Irene's Room." One of the members reads selections from a book for reflection, and discussion follows. It is a time for personal sharing and for prayer. Call office for more information.
Hunger
The people bring food each week as part of the offering.
