The Good Earth GardenHungerThe Good Earth Garden is a community garden coordinated by St. John's UMC members. The mission of the Good Earth Garden is to:Feed those in the Dover community that may need food.Educate the Dover community about how to grow their own food.Be a retreat for thoughtful prayer and meditation Members and volunteers may have their own plot to grow, as well as assist with the care of items that will be donated to local food pantry and other ministries that focus on food insecurity in our community.Care TeamCaringResponds, free of charge, to the non-medical “quality of life” needs of individuals not routinely provided by existing social service programs. Care Teams acts as an extended family or friend, and assist with a variety of activities such as visiting, shopping transportation, respite care and support to individuals with special needs.Prayer ChainSpiritual LifePrayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility, and acknowledging our dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of all peoples from all over the world. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the eternal. The ministry is literally made up of small groups of people (also known as “covenant groups”) that have a specific focus and meet regularly to discuss topics or participate in activities in support of their focus. What is a “covenant group”? Generally a group of people numbering between 6 and 8Common focus or “covenant” that guides their discussions and activitiesMembers are accountable to one another and support each otherDiscussions are usually confidential within each groupFocus of a group may include Bible study and Lenten/Advent studiesGroups may choose to discuss books, articles or current events & issuesGroups may plan activities such as community outreach projects What is it like to attend a small group meeting? Your group may have a leader (or the role may be shared) who leads the agendaThe agenda is driven the focus or “covenant” of your groupYour group may have a time of fellowship or checking in: “How are you doing this week?”Members discuss topics in confidence which allows trust to build within the groupPrayers may be used to open or close the meetingYour group may choose to shift focus at it evolvesLarger groups may decide to “split” into smaller groups and support one anotherMost groups meet in person at private homes or in church meeting space How do you find out more about small groups?
